Location

The National Parc “Portile de fier” (“The Iron Gates”) is situated in the south west part of Romania at the border with Serbia, partially occuping territories belonging to Caras-Severin and Mehedinti Locvei Mountains in the southern and southwestern Almajului and Mehedinti Plateau.

Natural Park limits are represented by the Danube fairway south, west Nera river, watershed tributary of the Danube River to the north (part) and a sinuous line that starts downstream of Gura Vaii to the Peak Motarat to the east.

Iron Gates Natural Park lies between 21 º 21 'and 22 ° 36' east longitude and in latitude between 44 º 51 'and 44 º 28' 30'' north latitude. The main access points are near the cities of Orsova and Drobeta Turnu Mehedinti and the small towns of Socol and Naidăş in Caras Severin.
