PORT-OF-IRON CIRCUIT!

DAY 1!

-6 AM – Leaving point: ASE Commerce, Bucharest

-On leaving the Gura Valley, we’ll visit the Navigation and Hydropower Complex "Iron Gates".

Valley Mouth – Varciorova (Gura Vaii) is a mixed reservation which covers 305 hectare and is located in the eastern side of the park. In this reservation are housed forests with a diversified floristic composition and many rare species. Here we can find: Horacius Tony, Quercus frainetto, Prunus mahaleb, Corylus colurna, Crataegus monogyna, Cotinus coggygria, Ficus Carica, Dianthus compactus, etc.

-To within 1 km from E 70 we visit the Vodita Monastery, where there are the ruins of the oldest monastic settlements.

The Monastery Vodita was built at 500 meters from the Danube, in the municipality Varcovia, between 1370-1372. The founder of the monastery was the monk Nicodemus Greek Serbian origin who came to the Romanian Country in 1359 and after building this place raised Tismana Monastery . The ruins of old monastery Vodita can be seen today near the wooden church built in 1995

-Continue the journey on Route 70, at a distance of 4 km, we visit paleontological reserve Bahn (Lake Bahn)

-The route follows the gorge on the Danube by locality Orsova

DAY 2!

-8 .30 AM – Serving breakfast, after we will visit other attractions in the area, like:

-Vizitarea Cazanelor Mici si Mari

Large and Small Boilers (“Cazanele mici si mari”) covers 215 hectare and is located in the north-east of Dubova and they are separated by Dubova basin. The Boilers of Danube is the portion of the gorge where Danube crosses the narrowest and most grandiose area, forming a well-individualized geomorphological portion.

-The Mraconia Monastery

The Mraconia Monastery was built in the Mraconia valley but over time from 1523 to the present has undergone a series of changes, both in form and in location. In 1931 began the recostruction of the monastery after the Russo-Austro-Turkish warfare in which it was destroyed. But its ruins were covered by water after being Danube Iron Gate being dam.

-Decebal’s face

Decebal`s face carved in stone, was a project whose initiative belonged Dragan European Foundation founder, Iosif Constantin Dragan. The project started in 1994 and was completed in 2005. The sculpture is located at the mouth of the Danube River Mraconia, it has a height of 40 m and a width of 25 m.

DAY 3!

-8 .30 AM Breakfast time

-10 AM visiting The Saint Ann Monastery

-The Saint Ann Monastery

The Saint Ann Monastery was built on the hill “Mosului” from Orsova between 1936-1939 by the wars journalist Pamfil Seicaru. The monastery was built in memory of journalist`s mother and is dedicated to St. Anne. Abode is a convent and was consecrated only in 1990.
